TXTRI - Canyon Park - Powered by WORD of Comal Co.

About the Event

Are you ready to TXTRI!?

Welcome to TXTRI - Canyon Park - Powered by WORD of Comal County.

TXTRI has a history at Canyon Park with an Olympic Distance Triathlon (circa 2005-2014), one of the first Dual Draft-Legal races between Canada and USA youth. We are excited to bring triathlon and other activities to this beautiful venue. The Texas Hill Country has a long history with triathlon and breath-taking challenging courses.

For 2026, we will be bringing you two distances to choose from.

1. A closed looped sprint course all inside the park, without traffic, simpler and safer course. (More info below)

2. An Olympic or Intermediate distance triathlon, outside the park over Devils Backbone, Purgatory Rd and two river crossings.

Both courses have breathtaking views and will be a hill country challenge for sure.

For future events at Canyon Park and other locations around Canyon Lake we will be bringing more options and distances for triathletes to participate. So, stay tuned!

TXTRI Sprint Triathlon-
Taking Place at Canyon Park, on the Northern side of Canyon Lake surrounded by the breathtaking Texas Hill Country. The Park will be closed at the time of the event, providing the ability to have a closed course to traffic. With some hills but overall, a fast course and excellent for racing, an almost ideal outdoor triathlon arena! This course also is great for newbies and beginner triathletes, with less stress of being on the open road with traffic.

Overall Map of the Course

Secondary Map

When you enter Canyon Park Road, next to Brookshire Brothers Grocery Store, go all the way down the causeway and into the park. You will pass the Marina and Restaurant entrance to the Gate Guard Station.

Participants will check in at the guard gate, spectators and guests will be $5 per entry over 13 yo. Please notify the gate guard if you have guests.

Parking is marked on the map, and we will have guides for parking. Everyone needs to be parked, and the roads closed at 715. The earlier you arrive, the better parking and race day ppu. Park will open at 5:30am. If you feel you might have to leave before 10am, park in parking #3 (on the map), the first parking lot catty corner to the guard gate.

The Swim Course is dedicated to the memory of Dagmar Alvis, our missed friend and triathlete.
The swim course will be 500 meter triangle counter-clockwise course, starting from boat ramp 18 in Canyon Park. We will be starting the swim with a time trial start- 1-2 swimmers every 3 seconds, by number (numbers will be assigned by age group).
Water temp will be posted on or Facebook Group Friday 11/6 afternoon. Wetsuits will more than likely be legal (<76) but not required (<68)
If you are a new or uncomfortable swimmer in open water, please notify race starter or lifeguards so we can be aware to keep everyone safe. If you need help or having difficulty in the water, stop and wave your hand to the lifeguards. If you fatigue, first swim on your back or breaststroke to rest.  The Lifeguards will be in kayaks; you will be allowed to rest on the nose or back of the kayak without forward progress. Please do not grab the side of the kayak, as you will flip the kayak.

The bike course will be a counterclockwise, 5-loop, 12-mile (exact 11.4) closed course around the big loop in the park. The bike course will be self-marshaled, and laps will be on the honor system. We will have monitors and signs to help you remember, but you are responsible for counting your laps.

The run course will be a clockwise, 4-loop 2.2-mile closed course around the small loop in the park. The run course will be self-marshaled, and laps will be on the honor system. We will have monitors and signs to help you remember, but you are responsible for counting your laps.

TXTRI Olympic/ Intermediate Triathlon-
Taking Place at Canyon Park, on the Northern side of Canyon Lake surrounded by the breathtaking Texas Hill Country. The Park will be closed at the time of the event, providing the ability to have a closed course to traffic in the park. Outside of the park for the bike course will have Comal County Sheriff for traffic control and safety.

Movement to help create a safer and healthier environment in which minor athletes can thrive.
The MAAPP applies to the TXTRI being held on November 9th, 2025

The MAAPP focuses on in-program contact between an Adult Event Participant and a minor
athlete and covers the following Required Prevention Policies: Meetings, Individual training
sessions, Therapeutic and Recovery Modalities and Manual Therapy, Locker Rooms and
changing areas, Electronic communications, Transportation.

All Required Prevention Policies apply at all facilities or locations that are partially or fully
under the jurisdiction of USAT which include any sanctioned event by USA Triathlon, or any
facility that the USAT owns, leases, or rents for practice, training, or competition.
All Required Prevention Policies must be followed by Adult Event Participants who have regular
contact and/or authority over minor athletes.
