Under the Oaks Run, now in its 16th year, invites runners of all levels to explore the picturesque beauty of Jekyll Island on Columbus Day weekend. This annual race offers three distances: a half marathon, a 10k run, and a family-friendly 5k event, each designed to showcase the unique charm and natural splendor of Georgia's Golden Isles.
The Half Marathon begins at Summer Waves in Jekyll Island early Saturday morning on October 10th. Runners will be treated to breathtaking views as they follow a route that hugs the Atlantic Ocean before meandering through the historic Millionaires Village, where towering Live Oak trees provide a canopy over scenic bike paths and marshlands. Participants will also enjoy running along the riverfront, immersing themselves in the serene beauty of Jekyll Island's natural environment.
The 10k run starts shortly after at 8:15am, offering similar highlights as the half marathon but with less mileage to cover. Runners can expect a course that begins on the beach and continues through historic neighborhoods lined with majestic oaks before turning towards the riverfront for an exhilarating finish.
For those looking for a shorter yet equally rewarding experience, the 5k event kicks off at 7:45am along tree-lined paths and bike routes. This race is perfect for runners of all ages who want to enjoy Jekyll Island’s beauty without committing to longer distances.
Race day registration includes an event t-shirt, finisher medal, swag bag filled with goodies from sponsors like Holiday Inn Resort, post-race food, and complimentary race photos courtesy of True Speed Photo. Registration fees vary by distance: $40 for 5k, $50 for 10k, and $80 for half marathon runners.
