UpRiver Running Fall Races is an annual community celebration that brings together runners of all ages and abilities for three distinct races: the 10Km, 25Km, and 50Km courses. Located in Thunder Bay's scenic trails, this event offers a unique blend of challenging terrain and stunning natural beauty. The race starts at Kinsmen Park off Trowbridge Road near the bike jumps, with participants enjoying free transportation to and from the start line via the Kasper Shuttle service, which operates out of the Current River Community Centre. The 10Km route offers a single-loop course that winds through Shuniah Mines before returning to Kinsmen Park. For those seeking more distance and elevation gain, the 25Km race features mostly single-track trails with some double-track sections, passing through areas like Cascades Conservation Area and Centennial Park. The full marathon of trail running is reserved for true endurance enthusiasts who tackle the grueling 50Km course. This challenging route consists of two loops of the 25Km path, doubling the aid stations to five along the way at strategic locations such as Balsam Access Trail Head and Cascades Conservation Area. Participants will appreciate the race's commitment to sustainability by being a cupless event where runners are encouraged to bring their own reusable cups or hydration bladders. An optional vegan-friendly burrito can be purchased ahead of time for post-race nourishment, but orders must be placed by September 20th through the UltraSignup store tab. The atmosphere at UpRiver Running Fall Races is electric with a strong sense of community support and encouragement among runners. Whether you're aiming to set personal bests or simply enjoy the camaraderie, this event promises an unforgettable experience in Thunder Bay's picturesque trails. Race bib transfers are allowed until September 18th, but race entries cannot be refunded once purchased. In addition to adult races, there is a special Kids Trail Run for young participants aged 17 and under who can register at $40 for the fun-filled 2.5Km course that includes segments of the Prospector Skills Trail and shorter loops on Yellow and Red Trails within Centennial Park. With cutoff times in place to ensure safety, such as a 9-hour limit (finishing by 4pm) for the 50K race and specific checkpoints along both longer routes, runners can expect clear guidance throughout their journey. Prizes are awarded to first finishers from each age division within the three main races. Join us this fall in Thunder Bay for an adventure that combines breathtaking views with challenging trails and a warm welcome from fellow runners and volunteers alike.
