Urolako Trena Maratoia 42K Zumarraga-Zumaia

The Urola Valley Train Marathon, established in 2026, aims to become a cherished fixture on the running calendar of Euskal Herria. For its second edition in 2027, participants can choose from three distances: a half marathon (21km), full marathon (42km), and a scenic 7km route. The race follows the restored path of the old Urola railway line, which has been fully rehabilitated for pedestrians and cyclists, adding an industrial charm to its natural beauty.
The half marathon and full marathon routes start in Zumarraga and finish in Azpeitia/Zumaia, tracing the course and valley of the River Urola. This year marks a significant milestone: 101 years since the inauguration of the Urola Railway, making February 21, 2027, a day rich with historical significance.
The shorter 7km race begins in Legazpi and ends in Zumarraga, offering runners an intimate look at both industrial heritage and stunning natural landscapes along the Via Verde del Urola. This unique course celebrates the railway's legacy while highlighting the region’s preserved cultural treasures and scenic vistas.
Runners will immerse themselves in a blend of historical landmarks, picturesque scenery, and local charm as they traverse this special route that honors Euskal Herria's rich industrial past.
