V. Izki Trail

The V. Izki Trail, organized by the Cultural Association Karrantan – Oskarbi, is a non-profit entity dedicated to preserving and promoting cultural traditions, recreation, and sports within the community of Apellaniz and its surroundings. Established under the Organic Law 1/2002 on Freedom of Association and the Basque Country's Associations Act, this event aligns with the organization’s mission to conserve historical heritage and respect the natural environment.
The primary goal of this year’s edition is to highlight the unique beauty and biodiversity of the Parque Natural de Izki. The race route has been meticulously designed to traverse nearly all of it, showcasing dense forests of beech trees and chestnut groves. This trail run stands out as the only sporting event in Arraia Maeztu that combines mountain terrain with a natural park setting.
Previous editions have demonstrated significant local economic and social benefits, attracting runners from near and far who contribute to community growth while enjoying the scenic beauty. The organizers aim to raise awareness about the importance of preserving this precious ecosystem without seeking any financial gain for themselves. Proceeds will be directed towards environmental conservation efforts in Apellaniz and its environs.
Scheduled for Sunday, September 6th at 9:00 AM, the event begins and concludes in Plaza Gerardo Lopez de Guereñu in Apellaniz. Participants can look forward to an immersive experience that celebrates both nature and community spirit as they navigate through lush landscapes and historic villages.
