Van Buren Popcorn Festival Kernel 5K

Since its inception in 1987, the Kernel 5K has grown into an integral part of the Van Buren Popcorn Festival. Originally aimed at promoting healthy living and community engagement, this race continues to attract more participants each year.
The event kicks off on Saturday, August 8, 2026, with registration starting at 7:30 am in front of the Van Buren Library along Indiana State Road 5. The library serves as a central hub for local activities and provides an ideal location for race day preparations.
At 8:30 am sharp, runners will embark on a flat and paved course that is meticulously marked to ensure ease of navigation. Throughout the route, you'll find well-placed water stations to keep you hydrated and traffic control measures in place to guarantee your safety as you make your way through this picturesque setting.
The race culminates at the Popcorn Festival Grandstand where participants are greeted with a refreshing spread of fruit and beverages upon crossing the finish line. The festive atmosphere here is infectious, making it an exciting end to what promises to be an invigorating morning run or walk.
