About the Event

The Vero Beach Octopus Ultra, born from the creative spirit of South Florida's running community during the challenging year of 2020, invites endurance athletes to explore its unique and demanding course. This ultra marathon is not just a race; it’s an adventure through diverse terrains and landscapes around Vero Beach.
The centerpiece of this event is its innovative "Octo-Arm" design, where runners start from the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) base station and venture out along eight distinct routes that loop back to the center. Each arm offers a different challenge—whether it’s navigating through dense forests or crossing open trails—and collectively they form an unforgettable journey for ultra marathon enthusiasts.
For those new to ultramarathoning, the Vero Beach Octopus Ultra provides several entry points: runners can test their mettle with just one octo-arm (16.86 miles) as part of the "Ultra Teaser," or tackle two arms combined into a mini-ultra distance (29.4 miles). The full challenge lies in completing all eight loops within 32 hours, earning you the prestigious Octopus Buckle.
The race, set to start at 6:00 AM on July 10, 2027, offers runners an immersive experience with stunning natural beauty and challenging elements. South Florida’s summer heat adds a layer of difficulty that requires careful planning and preparation. With loose cutoff times but strict safety measures in place, the race organizers reserve the right to pull participants for health reasons at any time.
Crew support is highly recommended due to long stretches without water access and extreme weather conditions. However, runners are encouraged to make an informed decision based on their experience level and preparedness.
Beyond the physical challenge, the Vero Beach Octopus Ultra also supports environmental education through its partnership with the Environmental Learning Center. A portion of proceeds will be donated to this organization dedicated to fostering stewardship for the environment and personal well-being among all people.
Join runners from around the world as they push their limits in one of South Florida’s most unique ultramarathons, where every step taken contributes not only to a personal achievement but also to a greater cause.
