Michigan's Memorial Weekend Ultra Run is an epic endurance challenge that spans over 150 miles across the diverse landscapes of Michigan, starting at Lake Michigan’s picturesque beach in Ludington and finishing at Veterans Memorial Park in Bay City. This self-supported adventure requires a dedicated crew to assist you throughout your journey. The route weaves through open roads and approximately 90 miles of scenic rail trails, offering runners an intimate connection with the state's natural beauty as well as its bustling towns. You’ll traverse rolling hills, serene forests, and charming rural areas while navigating busy streets that remain accessible to regular traffic. It’s crucial for participants to ensure their visibility during dark hours by wearing appropriate lighting like NoxGear or similar high-visibility gear. Crews are integral throughout the event; they can reach you at safe points along your route but must not pace alongside you in vehicles. Instead, meet-ups should occur at designated parking lots and trailheads out of traffic zones to exchange vital supplies such as food and water. A handful of volunteers will be stationed strategically across both roads and trails offering additional hydration and snacks when needed. A notable highlight is the breakfast feast prepared by your crew at Clare Trail Head in front of the Moose Lodge on M-115, welcoming you with a hearty meal once you've covered 100 miles. Pacers are welcome to join runners starting from Baldwin Trail Head for as long as they wish, though all pacers must register through UltraSignup and sign their waiver beforehand. The race clock starts Saturday morning at 8:00 AM and concludes Monday noon, giving participants a total of 52 hours to complete the distance. A critical checkpoint exists after 100 miles where runners face a strict cutoff time by Sunday evening’s 4:00 PM mark; those who fail this deadline will be unable to continue. Upon reaching the finish line, all competitors receive a commemorative belt buckle celebrating their achievement. Even if you decide to drop out before completing the full distance, registrants are still awarded with a special prize in recognition of your effort and commitment. This event not only tests physical limits but also honors veterans through partnerships with charitable organizations dedicated to supporting them. Michigan's Memorial Weekend Ultra Run promises an unforgettable experience for endurance athletes ready to push themselves against nature’s backdrop while respecting the rules and safety guidelines set forth by organizers.
