Every Step Counts: The Walk for Suicide Awareness In Canada, suicide remains one of the leading causes of death. Each year, approximately 4,500 lives are lost to this tragic reality—a stark reminder that behind every statistic lies a unique story and profound impact on families and communities. The Walk for Suicide Awareness is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues and supporting those affected by suicide loss or attempts. This poignant journey through the heart of Toronto aims to honor the memory of individuals lost, challenge societal stigma around mental illness, and foster open conversations that can save lives. Since its inception in 2022, this walk has brought together a diverse community united in their commitment to making a difference. Participants join hands with staff and volunteers from Distress Centres of Greater Toronto (DCGT), who provide free, multilingual support services around the clock for those in distress or at risk. The event not only serves as a platform for remembrance but also funds critical mental health resources that can prevent future tragedies. By participating, you become part of a movement striving to create a more compassionate and connected society where no one feels alone during their darkest moments. Registration is now open with early bird discounts available until August 12, 2026. Ensure your spot by securing an event shirt and Honor Beads, symbols of solidarity and hope. Limited quantities will be available on-site for late registrants on a first-come, first-served basis. Join us as we walk together toward healing, understanding, and brighter futures where mental health is prioritized and supported at every level. The Walk for Suicide Awareness invites you to step forward in the name of hope and change. Together, let’s make strides towards a more resilient community where everyone can find support when they need it most.
