Whiskey Basin Trail Runs

About the Event

The Whiskey Basin Trail Runs returns to Prescott, Arizona on April 17th, offering runners a unique blend of endurance challenges along the scenic Prescott Circle Trail. This event is known for its diverse terrain and stunning views, drawing participants from across the country who are eager to test their limits against nature's most beautiful backdrops.
On race morning at 6am sharp, participants gather in Watson Lake Park, where they will embark on a course that winds through the Granite Dells and along the shores of Watson Lake. The air is crisp with early spring chill, yet the sun promises warmth by mid-morning as runners make their way across various trail conditions ranging from firm to slightly soft underfoot.
Since its inception in 2019, the Whiskey Basin Trail Runs has become a staple event for endurance enthusiasts and casual joggers alike. Over the years, it has attracted hundreds of participants who come not only for the scenic beauty but also for the challenge posed by the varied terrain and elevation changes throughout each distance offered. The race supports local conservation efforts and community development projects in Prescott.
The course itself spans a range of distances from the full 91K loop around Prescott to shorter options like the half marathon, 33K, 10K, and various other trail lengths designed for all skill levels. Runners will encounter newly built trails that wind through the picturesque Granite Dells and along Watson Lake’s shoreline. The terrain includes both technical sections with rocky outcroppings as well as smoother paths by the water.
Race day starts at dawn when runners line up on 3101 Watson Lake Road for their respective distances, facing an elevation gain of around 500 feet over the course of the longer races. Aid stations are strategically placed every few miles along each route to ensure that participants have access to hydration and snacks throughout their run. The weather forecast predicts firm trail conditions with a UV index rating at moderate levels.
The Whiskey Basin Trail Runs offers several distance options for runners, including the full 91K point-to-point course around Prescott, Arizona; the challenging yet scenic half marathon covering 21.1 kilometers; and shorter events like the 33K and popular 10K run along the picturesque trails.
