Nestled in the heart of Colorado's breathtaking Fraser Valley and winding through Winter Park Resort’s scenic trails, the Winter Park Classic stands as the season finale to one of the most revered mountain bike series in North America. This iconic race has been a cornerstone event since its inception 39 years ago, offering both seasoned professionals and enthusiastic newcomers an unparalleled challenge amidst some of nature's finest landscapes.
Spanning 25 miles with over 4,000 feet of elevation gain, this course weaves through varied terrain that tests the mettle of even the most experienced riders. The route begins in the lush Fraser Valley, where participants are greeted by rolling hills and serene forest trails before climbing to higher elevations around Winter Park Resort.
The race is part of a larger series known as the Winter Park Classics, which includes four distinct courses catering to different skill levels and interests. From junior racers just starting out to elite professionals vying for top honors, there’s something here that appeals to everyone in the cycling community. The event prides itself on fostering a welcoming atmosphere where riders of all backgrounds can come together to celebrate their passion.
For those seeking competition, the Winter Park Classic offers substantial prize money for both men and women across various categories. Past winners include legendary figures such as John Tomac, Ned Overend, Tinker Juarez, Juli Furtado, and David Wiens, alongside emerging talents like Madigan Munro (Trek Factory Racing), Riley Amos (Trek Factory Racing), and Bjorn Riley (Trek Future Racing).
Participants are reminded of critical cut-off times at key checkpoints along the route: Elk Meadows by 11:50 am and Vasquez Road by 12:50 pm. Riders who miss these deadlines will still be able to complete their journey but won’t receive an official finish time or support from marshals.
