Zig Zag Marathon and Half

Immerse yourself in the picturesque landscapes of Suffolk at the Zig Zag Marathon & Half Marathon, hosted exclusively at the Suffolk Running Centre on Church Road in Bury St Edmunds. This scenic race offers runners an opportunity to explore some of England’s most charming villages through a meticulously designed course.
The marathon route covers 42.2 kilometers (26.2 miles) and is fully measured, featuring a single loop that winds around the campsite. The terrain here is gently undulating with just over 360 meters of elevation gain, providing runners with stunning views without any steep climbs to deter them. This course offers an honest challenge through rolling hills and picturesque Suffolk villages.
For those looking for a slightly shorter but equally rewarding experience, the half marathon spans 21.1 kilometers (13.1 miles), also in a loop format from the campsite. With over 200 meters of elevation gain, this route presents its own set of challenges while maintaining an overall inviting and scenic atmosphere.
Both routes are entirely on road but traverse quiet lanes that require runners to be mindful of traffic. Participants should wear bright clothing for visibility and use bone conductor headphones if they choose to listen to music during the race.
The event ensures a smooth experience with aid stations placed every 10 kilometers, offering refreshments and snacks throughout both courses. Runners can also park at no additional cost as part of their entry fee. Race HQ is situated at the start line and serves as the lap point for runners, complete with water and aid station facilities.
A unique feature of this event is its bespoke medal design available to all finishers or a lucky dip option from previous editions if you prefer an element of surprise.

Please note that the race has adopted a ‘cupless’ policy, encouraging runners to bring their own bottles or cups to minimize waste and support environmental sustainability efforts. Dogs and buggies are not permitted on these routes given the open road conditions.
