About the Event

Nestled at Suffolk Running Centre on Church Road, Bury St Edmunds (IP29 5AX), the Lucky Horseshoe Race invites runners of all abilities to explore its scenic and social routes. The race begins with a mass start at 9am and offers flexible options for participants: 5k, 10k, half marathon, full marathon, or ultra distances. Each route features an out-and-back course that encourages camaraderie among competitors.
The event's highlight is the Gallops Route used by runners tackling the half and full marathons, offering a glimpse of thoroughbred horses in training at Newmarket’s historic racetracks. For shorter distance participants, the Golding Hills provide a challenging yet picturesque terrain. Aid stations are strategically placed every 10 kilometers along the route to keep you hydrated and energized throughout your run.
Race HQ serves as both the starting point and lap marker with ample parking included in your entry fee. Here, runners can refuel at water/aid stations stocked with drinks and snacks. Upon crossing the finish line, all participants will receive a bespoke medal celebrating their achievement, or choose from a selection of previous or lucky dip finisher medals if that option is available.
To support sustainability efforts, this year's event has gone cupless—participants are encouraged to bring reusable bottles for refilling at aid stations along the course. Join us in Suffolk and experience the unique blend of running and horse racing culture during the Lucky Horseshoe Race.
