Race day in Summerville promises to be a delightful experience under clear skies and mild temperatures typical for late December. The morning air will carry just enough chill to keep participants alert but not too cold to dampen spirits. Locals and visitors alike are expected to enjoy the lively atmosphere, with community energy peaking as runners gather on the starting line.
The 13th Annual Cocoa Cup 5K has a rich history, marking its place in Summerville's annual calendar since 2014. With over 600 participants last year and growing steadily each edition, it’s clear why this race is so beloved by runners of all levels. The event supports local charities such as East Cooper Community Outreach, The Lowcountry Food Bank, and The Navigation Center, making every participant a part of something bigger.
The course for the five-kilometer run will take you through the scenic streets of Summerville, starting from Brown Family Park at Nexton before weaving its way through charming neighborhoods. Expect firm but slightly soft trail conditions as nature’s resilience meets urban charm. The layout offers several notable features, including a couple of gentle inclines and a wide open stretch that provides excellent views.
At 9:30 am sharp on race day, the starting line will buzz with excitement. Runners can prepare for some mild winds (average speed of 10.6 km/h) blowing from the north but don’t let this deter your pace. Along the course, you’ll find well-placed aid stations offering water and snacks to keep you fueled. The finish line awaits at Brown Family Park under a canopy of tents set up by Fleet Feet Mt Pleasant.

Logistics for the 13th Annual Cocoa Cup 5K are straightforward. Register online through our official website, https://runsignup.com/Race/SC/Summerville/CocoaCup5K, with fees starting at $40 per participant for adults and no fee for kids in the one-mile fun run.
Bib pickup is available on three convenient days leading up to race day: - Thursday 12/17 from 10 am to 6 pm at Fleet Feet Mt Pleasant (881 Houston Northcutt Blvd) - Friday 12/18 from 10 am to 6 pm at Fleet Feet Summerville (117 E Richardson Ave) - Saturday 12/19 from 7:30 am to 9:00 am directly at the race site under the Fleet Feet tents
Starting location for both runs is Brown Family Park Nexton. Participants must be at least 18 years old and children in the one-mile run need adult supervision. First-timers are encouraged, as the event caters to all skill levels.
