Nestled in the serene landscapes of Bad Iburg, the Ultramarathon im Freeden offers runners an unforgettable adventure through nature and challenging terrain. This race features distances for ultramarathons as well as half-marathons and 3/4 marathons, catering to a variety of endurance athletes. The event takes place at Wanderparkplatz Freeden, located along the Hermannsweg path near Bad Iburg. The start and finish line are set directly on the Gullideckel entrance road leading up to the park. Participants will enjoy panoramic views as they embark on this scenic journey through rolling hills and dense forests. The ultramarathon course is a rigorous 11.25 kilometers long, with approximately 250 meters of elevation gain over its first half before descending back down. Runners complete four laps around this loop for a total distance of nearly 45 kilometers. The route includes steep ascents and descents along the Hermannsweg trail system, winding through lush greenery and past quaint rural landmarks. For those opting for shorter distances, there are also options to run half-marathons (21.1 km) or three-quarters of a marathon (30.56 km), each offering similar terrain but fewer laps around the main loop. The race is organized by Uwe Laig and features hand-timed results recorded by Susanne Laig, ensuring accuracy in capturing every runner’s performance. With an 8-hour time limit for the ultramarathon distance, participants have ample opportunity to embrace the challenging yet rewarding course. Participants are advised to bring their own hydration and snacks as there is no official race day catering provided. The park offers a water wading pool that may be available in April, providing runners with a refreshing break from the heat during longer distances. The event strictly adheres to environmental regulations, prohibiting any shortcuts or littering along the course paths which run through protected natural areas and landscapes. Runners are expected to adhere to all rules set forth by organizers for their safety as well as that of fellow competitors. Registration is open until 6 PM on the day before the race if space permits; however, late entries may be accepted at organizer discretion based on availability.
