8. Erzsteig Berg-Ultramarathon

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Hasbergen, nestled within Germany’s rolling hills and lush forests, the Erzsteig Trail Marathon is an exhilarating challenge for runners seeking both scenic beauty and rugged terrain. The race course winds through a 14.4-kilometer loop that participants complete three times to reach the full marathon distance of 43.2 kilometers.
The route takes you on the challenging “Erzsteig” path, which is known for its steep ascents and descents as well as rocky sections and muddy trails. Runners will traverse through varied landscapes including wooded paths, meandering trails, and scenic hills such as Hüggel, Jägerberg, and Silberberg, with a highlight being the orchid-filled fields along the way.
Each lap features an elevation gain of approximately 370 meters, adding up to nearly 1.11 kilometers in total vertical ascent across all three loops. The course is predominantly off-road, covering about half its length through dense forest and offering only brief stretches on paved roads for a short respite from the trails.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own hydration and nutrition supplies as there will be no official aid stations along the route. After completing each lap, runners return to the start/finish area at Roter Berg 9 where they can restock or adjust their gear before heading back out onto the trail.
Registration is open until the day prior to the event with a suggested donation of €5 for those who wish to contribute financially.
