17. Außenalster Ultramarathon am 04.07.2026 (Hamburg Special Marathons)
About the Event
The 17th edition of the Hamburg Außenalster Ultramarathon is set to take place on Saturday, July 4, 2026. This scenic race around the picturesque Lake Alster has been part of the FEM (Fun & Erlebnis Marathon) series since its eighth iteration in April 2016 and offers runners three distance options: 44.4 km, 51.8 km, or 59.2 km. The race starts at Uhlenhorst Park near Bellevue House on Sierichstraße/Körnerstraße in Hamburg, with a briefing for participants beginning at 8:50 AM and the actual start time set for 9:00 AM sharp. The route is an approximately 7.4-kilometer loop around Lake Alster that runners will complete six, seven, or eight times depending on their chosen distance. Participants can reach the starting point easily via public transportation; specifically, taking Metrobus lines 6 and 25 to Gertigstraße station. Fun & Erlebnis Marathons is organizing this event under Christian Hottas's direction in Hamburg. Registration fees vary based on when participants sign up: €15 for early registration from March 28th through May 31st, €17.50 between June 1st and June 21st, and €20 thereafter (without a guaranteed medal). Payment must be made within seven days of online registration to secure the lower rate; otherwise, payment deadlines will determine pricing. Race day amenities include water, lemon or apple tea, cola, apple juice, cake, chocolate, wine gums, salt sticks, and more at both the start/finish line. For those in need during the race, there are multiple pay toilets along with several ice cream stands and drinking stations provided by Hamburg Wasser. The event organizers have a team of experienced volunteers who will manage hydration points and round/timing protocols as they did from 2017 to 2020 and again since 2022. Participants can expect results, awards, and certificates available for download on the race result website days after completing their run. While this is a self-supported event with no changing facilities or showers provided by organizers, there are several paid public toilets along the route as well as multiple ice cream stands and water stations scattered throughout Lake Alster. Runners should carry small change to use these amenities during the race. Registration closes on June 21st at midnight; late entries will incur higher fees without a medal guarantee. As always, participants must acknowledge that they accept no liability for accidents or theft occurring during this event upon signing up. This unique ultramarathon offers an unforgettable experience around one of Germany's most beautiful urban lakes, perfect for endurance runners looking to challenge themselves in a scenic setting while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere and support along Lake Alster’s shores.

About Hamburg
Learn more about the host city, Hamburg.
The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is Germany's second-largest city and, at the same time, one of Germany's 16 federal states or Bundesländer. Prior to the formation of the modern German state, Hamburg for centuries enjoyed a status as de facto independent city state and regional power and trade hub in the North Sea. Although situated over 100 km (62 mi) upriver from the North Sea on the Elbe, Hamburg has been one of Europe's most important ports for centuries, as reflected in its full name referencing the Hanseatic League. The city was built on the confluence of the Elbe with a smaller tributary, and much of the southern bank of the Elbe is today occupied by an enormous seaport.
