The Cape Breton Fiddlers Marathon invites runners to experience the vibrant culture and stunning landscapes of Cape Breton Island on October 18th. Nestled along Sydney's picturesque waterfront, this Boston-qualifying race offers a flat, fast course that winds through downtown streets lined with enthusiastic supporters. On the day before the event, participants can visit Victoria Park from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. for the Fiddlers Race Expo and pick up their race kits. Online registration closes at midnight on October 16th, but runners can still register during expo hours. Race day begins early with a marathon start at 8:00 a.m., followed by half marathon runners taking off at 8:50 a.m. The 10k and 5k races kick off at 8:20 a.m. and 8:40 a.m., respectively, all starting and finishing at Victoria Park (20 Ortona Dr, Sydney, NS B1P 7G9). The marathon route is professionally timed by Atlantic Chip Sport Timing, ensuring accurate results for all participants. Along the way, runners will be treated to performances from Cape Breton's talented musicians, adding a unique cultural element to the race experience. Registration fees are non-refundable and cannot be deferred, so early sign-up is recommended. The full marathon has a six-hour time limit with no support after 2:00 p.m., ensuring that all runners can enjoy the scenic waterfront setting without interruption. This event is part of Run Nova Scotia's Road Race Series for both the Full Marathon and 5k race categories, while the Half Marathon falls under their Performance Series. Non-service dogs are not permitted to participate in the races.
