Race to the Rescue

Strait Area Ground Search and Rescue, working alongside Cape George Trail Association, invites runners to participate in its 2026 fundraising race. This event aims not only to support the local search and rescue team but also to showcase the stunning natural beauty of the region.
The race will take place on September 26, 2026, starting at North Shore Fire Hall with a start time of 8:30 AM. Two distance options are available for participants: a 10KM course that climbs approximately 265 meters in elevation from North Shore Fire Hall to Cape George Lighthouse, and a more challenging 21KM route which includes the Heritage and Goat trails before concluding at the same lighthouse.
For those who prefer to take part without running, there are alternative ways to support SAGSAR. You can choose to sponsor a runner through Race Roster's peer-to-peer fundraising platform or make a direct donation via their website.
On race day, participants will have the opportunity for bib pick-ups on September 25 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Coastal Chiropractic and again early in the morning of September 26 between 7:30 AM and 8:15 AM at North Shore Fire Hall.
The course will be marked with two aid stations for the longer race, offering water supplies and first-aid services. A single aid station will support runners on the shorter route. Post-race transport is available from Cape George Lighthouse to North Shore Fire Hall. Dogs are welcome only in designated areas at the finish line; they must remain outside during the event.
SAGSAR stands as a fully volunteer-run, non-profit organization dedicated to providing top-tier rescue services for those who go missing in wilderness settings within Nova Scotia. Their commitment is evident through their 24/7 availability and their mission statement: "so others may live." Every donation contributes directly towards their ability to reach remote areas swiftly.
