About the Event

In the Edo period, pilgrimages to Naritasan Shinshoji were a popular group trip for ordinary people, thanks to the temple's closeness to Edo and the one-night journey each way. This walk follows the Narita Kaido (Sakura Kaido) for about 50 km to the temple, passing Hiyodori-zaka slope and the remains of a castle town in Sakura along the way. Many old road markers remain along the route, so walkers can look out for them.
The second half has some ups and downs, but the route follows the railway through built-up areas, which makes it relatively approachable for those new to 50 km walks.
