On August 8, 2026, the picturesque waters of Erfurt-Stotternheim will host the Langstreckenschwimmen Stotternheim, an exciting aquatic competition featuring five distinct races. Organized by the Thüringer Schwimmverband e.V., in collaboration with Erfurter SSC e.V. and Tauchsportclub Erfurt e.V., this event promises to attract swimmers of all ages and skill levels. Competitors can choose from a variety of distances, including 1km, 2km, and 5km races. The shorter events include the Flossenschwimmen (using swim fins) for both women and men in the 1km and 3km categories. These races are known as the Flossen-Cup and SWE-Flossen-Cup respectively, offering unique challenges with their specialized equipment. The longest race is a traditional open water swim over 5 kilometers, dubbed the SWE-Cup, which will test endurance and stamina against some of Germany's top swimmers. This event also includes separate categories for younger participants aged 14 to 19 years old in various age groups such as Jugend B, Jugend A, Juniorinnen, AK20, AK25, AK30, and beyond. The competition will take place at the Strandbad Erfurt-Stotternheim. Swimmers can look forward to a well-marked triangular course with clearly defined buoys for navigation during each race. The event begins promptly at 11:00 AM on August 8th, starting off as mass starts after an initial call in the water. Participants will be awarded finisher medals immediately upon crossing the finish line and can download certificates acknowledging their performance online afterwards. Medals are given to the top three male and female swimmers for each race category and age group. Additionally, special trophies will recognize the fastest times achieved over 1km, 2km, and 5km distances in both regular swimming events and Flossenschwimmen. Teams from various clubs and families can also compete for points based on their individual placements within specific races. To qualify for team or family awards, a minimum of six starters must be registered per group with at least three members participating in the longer distance swims (1km and 2km). Registration is open until August 5th online but late entries are possible up to an hour before race start on-site near the entrance area. The entry fee for adults covers each individual race costing €12, while children under age 14 pay only €7 per event. This comprehensive aquatic festival celebrates both competitive spirit and camaraderie among swimmers of all ages as they tackle challenging distances in a beautiful natural setting along the shores of Erfurt-Stotternheim.
