The 2nd edition of the 4 X Paw Challenge is set to bring together sled dog enthusiasts for an exhilarating weekend filled with competition, camaraderie, and scenic trails. This unique team challenge spans four stages across three days at a single venue within Brandon Park in Thetford Forest. Competitors can choose from various classes including passenger rigs, sprint courses tailored specifically for juniors aged 7-10 years old (accompanied by an adult), and longer routes suitable for older participants up to age 15-17. Each day offers a mix of short and long-distance trails designed to test both skill and endurance. Adult teams will be randomly selected through a live draw once entries close, with the date announced on Facebook. For passenger rig classes, team formation is not applicable as these already involve two participants per sled. Juniors compete individually in separate age categories over Saturday and Sunday races. The event features 4-8 dog passenger rigs for adults, divided into Open, Nordic, and Freight divisions except for canicross which includes male/female splits. Additionally, the race organizers have introduced under 11 classes this season to accommodate younger participants. Competitors will benefit from a Musher's Meal voucher provided on Saturday afternoon between races as well as camping facilities at £10 per unit nightly along with day parking and catering services available on-site. Entry fees range from £60 for adults, second entries cost £55 while juniors pay £45 and under 11s are charged £35. Participants must adhere to strict safety guidelines including providing third-party liability insurance, ensuring dogs have been microchipped before the race, and confirming that all participating canines are over 18 months of age. Comprehensive rules and welfare information are available on www.uk-sleddogs.co.uk. This early season event serves as an excellent opportunity for mushers to assess their dog's fitness levels ahead of upcoming club championships or international races outside the UK while ensuring both human and canine participants remain safe amidst potentially challenging weather conditions. The 4 X Paw Challenge promises a blend of competitive spirit, scenic beauty, and family-friendly activities making it a must-attend event for sled dog racing enthusiasts.
