The 50th Gary P. Lister Bottle & Cork Ten Miler/5K returns to Dewey Beach, Delaware on Saturday, September 12, 2026. This ten-mile and five-kilometer race series is part of the Ten Sisters of Dewey Beach Road Race Series event.
Dewey Beach offers a charming setting for runners as they start their journey through the historic town. The race begins at the corner of South Street and Lincoln Avenue in downtown Dewey Beach, just down from the iconic Dewey Beach Boardwalk. Participants will pass by quaint shops and eateries before heading towards the beachfront. Expect a warm morning with an average temperature of 21.7°C, and mild humidity levels that make for comfortable running conditions.
This race has been held annually since its inception in 1976, making it one of Dewey Beach's most cherished traditions. Over the years, thousands of participants have joined to raise funds for local scholarships through the Gary P. Lister Foundation. The event not only celebrates community spirit but also supports young people’s education and future success.
The course takes runners along coastal roads and paths that wind past beachside houses before heading back into town. The ten-mile route includes a mix of flat terrain and slight elevation changes, providing a challenging yet rewarding experience for both competitive walkers and seasoned runners. Notable features include the picturesque South Street and scenic views from the beachfront.
Participants will find aid stations at strategic points along the course to ensure hydration and energy replenishment during their run or walk. The race concludes with a post-race party inside Bottle & Cork, where participants can celebrate their accomplishment over refreshments provided by the local establishment.
Registration for both distances is available online through Raceroster.com. For the 5K registration run/walk and competitive walking event, fees are $33.70; additional post-race party tickets cost $12.40. The deadline to register is one week before race day. Bib pickup will be at Dewey Beach Town Hall from 8 AM to noon on September 12.
First-timers should arrive prepared with their bib numbers and any necessary items for the event, including water bottles or hydration packs if needed. Age requirements are open to all runners over 16 years old; however, participants under 18 must have parental permission. Dewey Beach’s vibrant community atmosphere, combined with its scenic race course, makes this ten-mile/5K run an experience not to be missed.
