Join the 6th Annual Veterans Day at McKay on Saturday, November 14, for an inspiring celebration honoring those who have served. This beloved local tradition features both a 5K and a 10K walk/run through the picturesque McKay Community Forest. Participants will gather near Harris Street next to Redwood Acres to begin their journey along this scenic out-and-back course. The event offers more than just running; it's an inclusive gathering for all who wish to pay tribute to veterans and active-duty military members. Before and after the race, attendees can enjoy a variety of activities including the Community Connections Fair and a BBQ hosted by Arcata American Legion Post 274. Frankie’s NY Bagels will be on hand offering delicious treats, while everyone is invited to stick around for an awards ceremony immediately following the run. To accommodate those who have served our country, veterans and active-duty military can use promo code "veteran" when registering. Given the anticipated wet weather conditions due to El Niño this year, participants are advised to come prepared with appropriate footwear and attire suitable for muddy terrain. It’s important to note that dogs will not be allowed at this event due to insurance and permit requirements. The organizers rely heavily on community support through sponsorship and volunteer opportunities.
