South By Five: A Series Through Glasgow's Green Spaces
Acorn Trails is excited to announce the return of South By Five, inspired by the iconic Glasgow race, The South Side Six. This 12-week series takes runners through six distinct parks across the city, each hosting a unique and scenic 5km event.
### Event Details
- Dates: November 1st - January 17th (Kings Park to Queens Park)
- Start Time: All races begin at 10:30 am
- Registration: Free entry for all participants; mandatory minimum donation required
South By Five is designed with flexibility in mind. Runners can choose to participate in individual events or commit to the full series, earning them a special "Fiver" title upon completion of five out of six races.
### Parks and Dates:
1. Kings Park – Sunday, November 1st
2. Linn Park – Sunday, November 15th
3. Rouken Glen – Sunday, November 29th
4. Pollok Park – Sunday, December 13th
5. Bellahouston Park – Sunday, January 3rd
6. Queens Park – Sunday, January 17th
Each race offers a chance to explore the beauty of Glasgow's parks, from Kings Park with its serene lakes and walking paths to Bellahouston Park’s expansive greenery.
### Series Commitment
For those who opt for full series entry, there is an important caveat: missing two out of the first three races will result in your spot being reassigned. This policy ensures that all participants are committed from the outset.
The final race at Queens Park concludes with a gathering and prize giving ceremony at a nearby bowling club, celebrating the achievements of runners who have completed five or more events.
### Community Involvement
In addition to running, South By Five encourages community engagement through organized litter picks in each park. This initiative aims to give back to the natural spaces that provide such wonderful race routes.
Participants are also encouraged to support local charities by bringing donations to a designated food bank instead of paying an entry fee. The Acorn Trails Community Fund will receive mandatory minimum donations, which help develop grassroots sports initiatives and invest in trail maintenance.
