South By Five: A Series Through Glasgow's Parks
Acorn Trails is excited to announce the return of its signature series, South By Five. Inspired by the iconic Glasgow race The South Side Six, this 12-week journey takes runners through six distinct parks across the city, each hosting a unique 5km event. Whether you're looking for an individual challenge or aiming to complete all races and earn your "Fiver" title, there's something here for every runner.
### Race Schedule
- Kings Park: Sunday, November 1st
- Linn Park: Sunday, November 15th
- Rouken Glen: Sunday, November 29th
- Pollok Park: Sunday, December 13th
- Bellahouston Park: Sunday, January 3rd
- Queens Park: Sunday, January 17th
All races begin at a convenient time of 10:30 AM. The final race concludes with a celebratory gathering and prize giving ceremony at a nearby bowling club adjacent to Queens Park.
### Series Commitment
While you can sign up for individual events or the entire series, those who choose the full package must complete five out of six races to earn their "Fiver" designation. However, if you miss two of the first three race weekends, your entry will be forfeited and reallocated from a waiting list with no refund.
### Entry Details
Race entries are free but come with a mandatory donation to the Acorn Trails Community Fund. This fund supports local initiatives such as training coaches and first aiders, donating to good causes in the community, and maintaining park trails for future events. If you're unable to contribute financially due to personal circumstances, please contact us directly; we offer discretion.
### Additional Options
During registration, runners can opt for exclusive South By Five merchandise. These items will be available until August after which they won't be offered anymore. Additionally, there are opportunities to support the local foodbank as an alternative entry fee option if you prefer a tangible donation over monetary contributions.
### Charity Partner
This year's charity partner is Give A Dog A Bone – and an animal a home. The organization aims to alleviate loneliness among older adults by helping them adopt rescue animals without financial barriers, thereby addressing both pet homelessness and human isolation simultaneously. Based in Shawlands, just miles away from Acorn Trails' headquarters, they embody the spirit of local support.
### Litter Pick Initiative
To give back to the parks that host these events, each race weekend will feature an organized litter pick session.
