South By Five: A Series of Scenic Runs Through Glasgow Parks
Acorn Trails is thrilled to announce the return of its signature series, South By Five. Inspired by the iconic Glasgow race The South Side Six, this 12-week long event invites runners to explore six picturesque parks across the city. Each park hosts a 5km run on designated Sundays starting from November through January.
The participating parks are:
- Kings Park: Sunday, November 1st
- Linn Park: Sunday, November 15th
- Rouken Glen: Sunday, November 29th
- Pollok Park: Sunday, December 13th
- Bellahouston Park: Sunday, January 3rd
- Queens Park: Sunday, January 17th
All races begin promptly at 10.30am and offer runners the flexibility to enter either individual events or commit to the full series. Completing five out of six races will earn you the prestigious title of "Fiver"!
Those who opt for the complete series must be aware that missing two of the first three events could result in forfeiture of their entry, with no refunds and limited leniency. This rule aims at ensuring committed runners secure these well-coveted spots.
Entry to each race is free but requires a mandatory donation to Acorn Trails' Community Fund. The fund supports local initiatives such as training coaches and first aiders, aiding grassroots development in the sport, and enhancing park trails for future events.
Participants unable to afford donations due to financial constraints are encouraged to contact organizers directly with discretion assured. Additionally, runners can opt to bring foodbank contributions instead of an entry fee if they prefer.
Merchandise options will be available during sign-up until August 31st, offering a unique way to commemorate the event. The series also features organized litter picks at each park visit, encouraging participants to give back to their community and environment.
Charity partner for this year is Give A Dog A Bone, which helps over-60s adopt rescue animals by covering adoption costs, addressing both loneliness among seniors and homelessness in pets. Their local base near Acorn HQ underscores the event's commitment to supporting its own backyard.
