Ardgartan Trail Race invites you to explore the rugged beauty of Ardgartan Forest Park, where nature’s splendor and challenging terrain await. This 21-mile trail race is designed for runners who appreciate scenic vistas and a mix of technical trails, forestry paths, and open hills.
The route loops around the picturesque Ardgartan Peninsula, offering diverse landscapes that include stretches of tarmac alongside winding forest tracks. As you make your way across to Lochgoilhead, prepare for an ascent up the iconic Rest And Be Thankful Pass before descending back down towards the finish line. Along the course, expect plenty of natural features such as hills and cascading waterfalls.
Safety is paramount during this event; two hydration stations will be strategically placed at 7 miles and 13 miles to ensure runners remain hydrated throughout their journey. Given the park’s limited parking facilities, carpooling with fellow participants is highly encouraged to minimize traffic congestion and environmental impact.
Runners are required to carry essential gear due to seasonal conditions, which includes a basic first aid kit for minor injuries or emergencies. Detailed instructions regarding mandatory equipment will be provided three weeks before race day via email. It’s crucial that all competitors familiarize themselves with this information as ignorance is not an acceptable reason for disqualification.
In the event of storm damage affecting parts of Ardgartan Forest, route modifications may occur to maintain participant safety and adhere to established trail conditions. Additionally, participants can opt-in for a commemorative t-shirt at registration, though it remains non-essential.

- Within 30 days: A £15 administration fee will be deducted.
- Between 30 days and up to 12 weeks before race day: You’ll receive a 50% refund.
- Less than 12 weeks prior to the event date: No refunds are available.
