The Arizona Monster is an epic multi-day ultramarathon that challenges runners to traverse 300.5 miles through some of Southern Arizona’s most rugged terrain. This point-to-point race, organized by the Destination Trail team known for creating iconic ultra-distance events across America, takes participants on a journey deep into the heart of the Sonoran Desert. The route is characterized by its remote and raw beauty, offering runners an unforgettable experience amidst high-elevation mountain ranges and vast stretches of arid desert. The course winds through diverse landscapes, from single-track trails that wind through dense vegetation to bike paths and dirt roads that cut across expansive vistas. Runners will encounter a mix of challenging terrain, including steep climbs and descents totaling over 41,000 feet in elevation gain and loss. The Sonoran Desert’s unique ecosystem provides an ever-changing backdrop for the race, with vibrant bursts of flora contrasting against arid stretches of sand and rock. The region's subtropical climate adds to the challenge, as runners must navigate warm winter temperatures and unpredictable weather patterns throughout their journey. Support along the route is extensive, featuring 19 aid stations that provide essential supplies like food, water, medical support, and drop bags for gear transport. Runners have up to six days and six hours to complete the course, with a strict cutoff time of 150 hours ensuring safety and fair competition. Beyond its physical challenges, the Arizona Monster offers runners an opportunity to give back to local communities through donations from race proceeds that benefit organizations such as the Arizona Trail Association, Patagonia Youth Enrichment Center, and the local food bank. Participants can also look forward to receiving a range of exclusive swag items upon completion, including custom artwork by Blair, handmade buckles, finisher mugs, and more. Registration for the 2027 event opens on April 10th, 2026, with lottery selection announced in early May. This race isn’t just about pushing physical limits; it’s an adventure through one of America's most unique desert landscapes.
