Autumn brings the Welwyn Half Marathon and 10k race, set against the backdrop of Gosling Sports Park's impressive athletics track. This scenic course offers runners an unforgettable experience with its diverse terrain and welcoming atmosphere. The half marathon begins on a bustling start line before taking you through the picturesque outskirts of Welwyn. The route then leads onto the serene Cole Green Way, a former railway path now transformed into a tranquil traffic-free trail. After completing a short loop along this peaceful stretch, runners return to finish with an exhilarating lap around Gosling Sports Park’s 400m track. The multi-terrain 10k shares its opening segment with the half marathon but diverges onto its own unique route after reaching the first 5km mark. It then rejoins the starting point for a memorable conclusion on the park's athletics track. Ideal autumn conditions greet participants as they set off at 9:30am, ensuring comfortable temperatures throughout their run. With a three-hour cut-off time in place, marshals and signage will be available until that point to guide runners safely along the course. For younger racers, there’s also a free 400m fun run held fifteen minutes prior to the main event on the same track. Parents are welcome to join their children or use this as a warm-up for the upcoming race. The day kicks off with an invigorating warm-up session led by personal trainers before transitioning into a lively atmosphere filled with cheering spectators and professional commentary at the finish line. Family and friends can enjoy refreshments from quality caterers while waiting for runners to complete their courses, adding to the festive ambiance of the event. Fully licensed by UK Athletics and professionally timed using Event Chip Timing systems, this race guarantees accuracy in results. Runners appreciate not only the well-marked scenic route but also the encouraging support provided by marshals along the way. Each finisher receives a custom-designed medal upon crossing the line alongside complimentary professional photos and snacks from the finish area. Previous participants have consistently praised these elements as highlights of their running experience, making this event a standout in many runners’ calendars.
