Backyard for Kids 2026 by OBU

In the heart of Zittau, the "Backyard for Kids" race by OBU promises to be an exciting and unique running experience. Set around the picturesque Pethauer Lake, participants will run five 1000-meter laps, starting and finishing at the Westpark Stadium.
Each lap must be completed within a strict time limit of ten minutes. If runners finish early, they can enjoy some well-deserved rest until their next round begins. The race emphasizes consistency over speed; the winner is determined by who runs all five rounds with the most even pacing. Any participant not present at the start line for each lap will be marked as "Did Not Finish" (DNF).
Parents are welcome to join and support, though they won’t receive additional scores or awards. Refreshments will be provided during breaks, making it easier for runners to maintain their energy levels throughout the event.
Every competitor receives a medal upon completion of the race, while individual winners and top team performers earn coveted trophies. The "Backyard" format is inclusive, with no distinctions made between genders and only one winner per category.
For those interested in competing as part of a team, three runners sharing an identical team name will be considered a single unit. This optional feature adds another layer of strategy to the race, encouraging teamwork and coordination among participants.
