About the Event

Immerse yourself in history and scenic beauty along the Bath & Bristol Railway Races. This unique race follows the original train line from Green Park Station in Bath to Bristol Temple Meads, tracing a route that was active between 1869 and 1971 before being transformed into part of the National Cycle Network by Sustrans (now known as the Walk, Wheel, Cycle Trust) during its conversion period from 1979 to 1986.
The race offers an entirely tarmac surface, providing a smooth road running experience through lush green countryside and bustling cityscapes alike. Participants will encounter numerous historical landmarks that pay homage to this railway’s rich heritage. The Half Marathon features an out-and-back course to Bitton Train Station, with 2.5 kilometers of the route paralleling the active Avon Valley Railway, a heritage line that still operates on its original path today.
The longer distances—25km, Marathon, and 50km—offer runners even more opportunities to explore this historic railway corridor. These routes wind past restored signal boxes and charming stations such as Warmley and Mangotsfield, each station telling a story of the area's industrial past while offering picturesque views along the way.
