Bay Area 100

Join us on June 12, 2027, for the second running of the Bay Area 100, an epic trail race through California's diverse and awe-inspiring landscapes. Starting at the gates of California Memorial Stadium, this challenging point-to-point course spans a grueling 100 miles with nearly 6 miles (18,000 feet) of elevation gain over a maximum time limit of 33 hours.
The Bay Area 100 offers runners an unforgettable experience as they traverse ridgelines and redwood forests, navigate across bay crests, and encounter panoramic views stretching from the Golden Gate Bridge to Mount Diablo. The course is designed not only to challenge endurance but also to showcase some of California's most spectacular scenery, with sections that take you through Bay View, Las Trampas, Lake Chabot, and Redwood territories.
This race has earned a reputation as "The People’s 100" due to the strong community support from over twenty local running groups who played significant roles in supporting runners during its inaugural event. These dedicated volunteers ensure that every participant receives the encouragement needed to push through the toughest sections of this challenging course.
Registration for the Bay Area 100 will be capped at 300 runners and follows a rolling timeline allowing early summer sign-ups, open enrollment in fall, and final lotteries after Western States lottery results are known. Specific dates include July 15 for pre-registration (deferrals and alumni), August 3 for the first round of open registration, October 12 for Selection Sunday when up to 200 additional spots will be awarded via a random draw, and December 9 for final lotteries before moving onto a waitlist.
To ensure participants are adequately prepared, we recommend having completed at least one 50-mile race within the past year. Qualifying times must be provided during pre-registration; exceptions may also be requested based on individual circumstances.
The Bay Area 100 is an official UTMB index event and provides valuable points towards qualification for future races such as Western States, though that status remains pending until September when updates will be announced or made available via the waitlist.
With its unique blend of remote trail running and proximity to urban centers where friends and family can easily join in support, this race offers a rare combination of challenge and accessibility rarely seen elsewhere.
