Embark on an unforgettable adventure along the historic Erie Canal Towpath with the Summer Beast of Burden. This ultra-distance challenge caters to runners at all levels, from beginners aiming for their first big race to seasoned veterans seeking another epic feat. The event offers three distance options: 100 miles, 50 miles, and 25 miles. Participants start at Wide Water's Marina, where they'll find showers, restrooms, and a fully stocked aid station before setting off on the journey of their lives. The first mile is run along a paved trail leading to one of Lockport’s historic draw bridges. Once across the canal, runners venture onto the crushed cinder surface of the Erie Canal Towpath for an immersive experience through lush landscapes and historical sites. After approximately 6 miles, athletes reach another aid station where they can cool off from the sun's heat and refuel with a variety of ultra-friendly food options such as grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken broth, pizza, pancakes, donuts, and more. Continuing on for about 5.5 miles, runners arrive in Middleport at yet another fully stocked aid station before turning around to head back towards Wide Water’s Marina. The course is designed with a loop system: the full marathoners complete four loops while half-marathon participants tackle two loops. One of the highlights of this race is its dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer team, providing unparalleled support throughout each mile. For those who dare to take on both the Winter Beast 100 and Summer Beast 100 in the same calendar year, a special "Double Beast Buckle" awaits as an extra reward. Registration for the event tends to sell out quickly, so don't hesitate—sign up today and prepare yourself for one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences on your running journey. Whether you're pushing personal limits or aiming for another notch in your ultra belt collection, the Summer Beast of Burden promises a day filled with scenic beauty, rich history, and incredible camaraderie among fellow runners.
