BEYOND NEWCASTLE - 55KM ULTRA & 25KM TRAIL RUN

Welcome to BEYOND NEWCASTLE 2027, an exhilarating running adventure set for Saturday, April 24th, 2027. Organized by Wild Deer Events, this race promises a unique blend of scenic trails and urban charm that will take runners far beyond the ordinary.
Participants can choose between two challenging routes: a grueling 55km ultra run designed for seasoned athletes looking to push their limits, or a more approachable 25km trail run perfect for all skill levels. Both courses start in Newcastle's vibrant city center at Guild Hall Car Park, offering stunning views of the iconic Swing Bridge on the quayside.
The longer route ventures along the River Tyne towards Wylam and Derwenthaugh Marina before heading into Chopwell Woods and descending through Lintzford to the serene Derwent Valley. Runners will follow the river back to Newcastle for a dramatic finish at the West path of the Swing Bridge, where they can claim their hard-earned bragging rights.
The 25km route is equally scenic but more manageable, featuring picturesque trails along the River Tyne and through local woodlands before returning to the city center. Both races are fully supported with friendly marshals and well-stocked feed stations throughout the course, ensuring runners have everything they need for a safe and enjoyable journey.
Start times will be staggered: 5-minute intervals from 8am to 8:30am for the ultra distance, and from 10am to 10:30am for the shorter trail run. Feed stations are strategically placed at key points along both routes, providing essential nutrition and hydration.
All participants must carry a charged mobile phone with emergency contacts saved, as well as some basic kit including running backpacks or vests, water bottles, lightweight jackets, and energy gels. A strict cut-off time of 6:30pm ensures the safety of all runners, while live chip-timing by Timing Up North keeps track of everyone's progress.
Upon crossing the finish line, participants will be greeted with a medal, merchandise from Beyond Events, and refreshments to celebrate their achievement in this welcoming yet exciting race environment.
