Beyond the Lune, an ambitious endurance race crafted by seasoned athlete Stu Taylor, invites runners of all levels—social enthusiasts and competitive racers alike—to tackle 65 kilometers (40 miles) with nearly 2,000 meters (6,500 feet) of elevation gain. This challenging trail run begins at The Barn in Kirkby Lonsdale on December 19th, offering participants a hearty breakfast before setting off. The route is predominantly made up of footpaths and bridleways, with only about 10 kilometers on tarmac roads. Runners will encounter stunning scenery as they traverse the landscape, passing through seven summits and iconic landmarks along the way. The race's highlight may well be its legendary Radical Steps—a steep climb that serves as a final test before runners return to The Barn for pizza and refreshments by 8:30 PM. To ensure safety and self-sufficiency throughout the challenging terrain, participants must navigate using maps or GPS units (not phones) and carry essential gear such as food supplies, hydration packs, and emergency equipment. Two feed stations will be available along the route to provide nourishment during this demanding journey. Runners who sign up in the final week should note that merchandise may not be guaranteed on race day due to limited availability. Additionally, participants have the option to purchase XCover for a refund if unforeseen circumstances prevent their attendance. Join Beyond the Lune and immerse yourself in an unforgettable winter trail run experience beyond the banks of the River Lune.
