Experience the breathtaking beauty and thrilling challenge of the Black Hills Super 6, set to take place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Big Hill Trails. This year marks another milestone for this beloved annual event with a record-breaking turnout anticipated once again. The day promises to be filled with excitement as participants tackle challenging mountain bike and trail run courses while supporting an important cause.
Registration is now open until July 31st when early bird discounts will no longer apply, so make sure you sign up soon to secure your spot at discounted rates. This year’s event includes both a mountain bike race and a trail running competition, each offering solo and team options for various skill levels from beginners to advanced athletes.
The mountain biking course features two routes: a 3-hour/3-mile loop designed for novice riders and an intermediate-advanced option covering the same distance over six hours. Both courses wind through flowy single-track and double-track trails within Big Hill Trails, providing stunning views of the Black Hills National Forest as you pedal past dense pine forests and rocky outcrops.
For trail runners, there are also 3-hour and 6-hour options on a separate but equally scenic 3-mile loop. The terrain is rugged yet manageable for those looking to push their limits or enjoy a leisurely pace in nature’s embrace. Both races feature dedicated aid stations with snacks like fruit, candy, protein bars, pickles, Gatorade, water, and pickle juice.
The event kicks off early morning on August 15th with the mountain bike race starting at 8:00 AM followed by the trail run beginning an hour later at 9:00 AM. Teams can register for both events through a streamlined process that allows captains to create team names and invite teammates directly from their registration page.
Awards will be presented around mid-afternoon after all participants have finished, celebrating achievements in various categories such as individual male/female divisions and mixed teams across different age groups. Don't miss the post-race lunch provided for everyone featuring walking tacos, sweet treats, and refreshing beverages—a perfect way to unwind with fellow competitors.
For those interested in parking closer to the start/finish line at Big Hill Trailhead, a $60 donation to Northern Hills Area CASA secures you one of these coveted spots. Additionally, race memorabilia t-shirts for men and women’s razor-back tanks will be available during packet pick-up on August 14th from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM at the NHCASA office in Spearfish or right up until your event start time.
