Boone Gran Fondo, a SENA Gran Fondo National Series event
About the Event
Experience the breathtaking beauty of North Carolina's High Country at the 2026 Boone Gran Fondo, scheduled for August 2nd. This event offers three loop options to cater to all levels from beginner to elite cyclists, ensuring a fun and challenging ride no matter your experience. The course winds through picturesque landscapes, starting with an exhilarating downhill into Shull's Mill road before ascending the stunning Blue Ridge Parkway. Cyclists will then traverse the historic 1890s-built Grandfather Mountain route, known for its winding turns that feel like a paved roller coaster. A short descent leads to the Avery County seat of Newland, followed by quiet back roads through Cow Camp and Squirrel Creek. The third timed section takes riders along the tranquil North Toe River Valley before challenging them with an ascent on Beech Mountain's rugged terrain. After another downhill, Bethel Valley offers a serene respite as cyclists prepare for their final climb to the Tennessee state line. The route concludes with a long gradual descent through Sugar Grove and Valle Crucis communities, ending with climbs up Laurel Fork and White Oak roads back into Boone. For those under 23 years old by December 31st, 2026, use the coupon code U23byShimano to enjoy special discounts on event entry. This offer extends to juniors as well—cyclists aged 18 or younger are eligible for this discount too. Event highlights include fully stocked aid stations with energy products and food, four chip-timed sections ensuring fair competition, post-race refreshments, entertainment, a goody-bag filled with swag items, and finisher gifts. Age-group awards await the top performers in each category, while there’s also an opportunity to win prizes through raffles.
