Nestled in the heart of Colorado’s Telluride, the Box Canyon 30K and 10 Mile races offer runners an unforgettable journey through some of America's most breathtaking alpine terrain. Both events take place within a stunning loop that showcases the beauty and challenge of high country running. The Box Canyon 30K begins with a challenging ascent out of Telluride, heading east towards Bridal Veil Falls. Runners will encounter rough double-track trails as they pass by the historic Smuggler-Union Hydroelectric Plant before ascending into Upper Bridal Veil Basin. The course then winds through vast alpine meadows, reaching its highest point at Wasatch Junction at an elevation of 13,000 feet. From there, runners descend along dreamy singletrack trails and make their way to the Wasatch Connector trail for a final ascent up Telluride Ski Resort. Finishing strong involves descending through the ski resort back into town. The Box Canyon 10 Mile race offers an equally stunning loop but on a more compact scale. Racers start by ascending Bear Creek’s deep canyon, gaining elevation until reaching treeline and then continuing to the top of Telluride Ski Resort. The route rewards runners with panoramic views stretching across the San Juan Mountains in all directions. Descending through double-track and singletrack trails within the ski resort, participants finish back in the heart of Telluride. Both races feature rugged terrain with significant elevation changes: approximately 5,800 feet for the 30K and around 3,500 feet for the 10 Mile. Runners should come prepared with appropriate gear to handle variable weather conditions, including rain or hail during afternoon storms that are common in this mountainous region. Bib pickup is available at Jagged Edge Equipment Garage on Friday from 3-6PM and race day at Oak Street Gondola Plaza. The event starts early—6:30 AM for the 30K and 7 AM for the 10 Mile—to avoid afternoon storms, so it’s essential to arrive well ahead of your designated start time.
