Experience the breathtaking beauty of Berks County at the 17th Annual Brake the Cycle of Poverty fundraising event. Join us on August 8, 2025, as we embark on an unforgettable journey through some of Pennsylvania's most picturesque landscapes. Rickenbach Learning Center at Kutztown University serves as both our starting and finishing point, offering a welcoming atmosphere for all participants. The ride promises to be a testament to community spirit and dedication, with four distinct routes tailored to cater to every cyclist from the casual rider to the seasoned endurance athlete. The 62-mile Metric Century route invites you through two iconic covered bridges in Berks County, providing not just a physical challenge but also a journey into history. For those seeking a more moderate adventure, the 40-mile rolling hills ride offers a mix of challenging climbs and scenic backroads. The 25-mile winding backroads course promises to be a rewarding experience for both experienced cyclists and newcomers alike. For families or beginners looking to enjoy the day without the intensity of longer rides, we have reserved a 10-mile easy scenic route that avoids fearsome mountain climbs altogether. This makes it perfect for all ages and abilities, ensuring everyone can participate in this meaningful event. Registration opens now with check-in starting at 7 am on the day of the ride. Register by July 10th to secure your t-shirt; otherwise, availability is limited. Day-of registration will incur an increased fee of $50 per rider. For more details and updated information, visit friendcycling.org where you can access comprehensive route sheets and GPS coordinates. Join us as we pedal together for a cause that truly matters—breaking the cycle of poverty one pedal stroke at a time!

About Kutztown
Learn more about the host city, Kutztown.
Kutztown is a small town in the northeastern part of Berks County, in Pennsylvania Dutch Country between Reading and Allentown. It is home to about 5,100 year-round residents (2018), and to the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, a public university whose 8,300 students make the town a busy place from late August to early May. In the summer months and during school breaks, the town is much quieter and dominated by locals.
