Experience the thrill of the Bowie State University Bike Tour as we celebrate 11 years of cycling and philanthropy. This year, the tour offers both traditional and virtual ride options, inviting cyclists from all over to contribute to scholarships for students at Bowie State University. The event is organized by the Bowie Metropolitan Alumni Chapter (BMAC) of the Bowie State University National Alumni Association, ensuring a supportive atmosphere where you can connect with fellow cycling enthusiasts. The BSU Bike Tour takes place on Saturday, August 22nd, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm ET. For those choosing the traditional tour, four route options are available: 20 miles, 40 miles, 62 miles, and a challenging 100-mile journey. Each route features designated rest stops for refreshments and support. The registration table will open at 6:30 am at Vista Gardens Marketplace (10201 Martin Luther King Jr Highway, Bowie, MD), providing ample time to prepare before your departure. Virtual riders are encouraged to create their own adventure, with suggested distances of 18 miles or 65 miles to commemorate the university’s founding year in 1865. Whether you join us on-site or participate remotely, every mile counts towards our goal of raising funds for BSU students and supporting future academic dreams. Participants can expect a variety of amenities including GPS routes, road marking assistance, rest stops with refreshments, SAG service, bike tech support at the start area, hard copy maps if needed, and event wristbands. A post-ride meal will be provided (details to follow), along with opportunities for drawings among on-site registrants. Registration fees are set: $50 for early registration from March 1st to May 31st; $70 from June 1st to August 21st, and a final cost of $90 if registering onsite. Fees include refreshments at rest stops, bike tech support, and hard copy maps. Additional t-shirts can be purchased through the registration site for those who wish to support but not ride in the event. Donations are also welcome from anyone unable to participate directly. Volunteers are needed to help with this important fundraiser; sign up on the provided Google Doc to assist in various roles, including providing your tee-shirt size as a thank you gift. Vendors and bike organizations can apply for participation by submitting requests through specific links available closer to the event date.
