The 27th edition of this annual mountain biking challenge invites cyclists to explore the stunning Calder Valley, nestled within the high Pennine peaks. Spanning a challenging yet rewarding 27-mile route, participants will navigate through rugged moors and scenic country lanes, with two-thirds of the course dedicated to off-road trails that wind across verdant hillsides. The elevation profile is substantial, boasting over 4000 feet of ascent and descent, making for an exhilarating ride as you climb from one moor top to another. The route features both steep ascents and descents, offering breathtaking panoramic views along the way. All trailheads are clearly marked with directions provided by event marshals stationed at key points throughout. For those seeking a more moderate challenge, there's also a 13-mile option available, featuring half the elevation gain of its longer counterpart. Both routes are meticulously planned to ensure safety and enjoyment for all participants, supported by an experienced team equipped with first aiders and radio communications from Calderdale Raynet volunteers. Participants can bring their eBikes if they comply with UK Government EPAC legislation, meaning that pedals must be operable at all times. This ensures a fair playing field while accommodating modern cycling technology. Upon completion of the ride, competitors will find refreshments waiting for them in the clubhouse, including hot food and drinks to refuel after your efforts. There's also a licensed bar operated by the local cricket club which may open its doors during the afternoon hours. Registration takes place at Sowerby Cricket Club on St Peter’s Avenue, Sowerby Bridge (HX6 1DF), with car parking available in the nearby school lot and along the roadside. Check-in opens at 7:00 am sharp and closes by 8:25 am for a mass start promptly at 8:30 am. All riders will receive an event momento to commemorate their achievement, while entry fees support fundraising efforts for the local 24th St Paul's Sowerby Bridge Scout Group. Participants have the option of purchasing XCover insurance that allows them to claim refunds in case they cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances. This unique blend of natural beauty and physical challenge makes it an unforgettable experience for all who take part, immersing you fully into the heart of Calder Valley’s breathtaking landscape.
