Calderdale Way Ultra

Embark on the fifth edition of the Calderdale Way Ultra, an exhilarating journey that winds through the heart of Calderdale’s stunning landscapes. This 50-mile route is a celebration of nature and history, tracing ancient packhorse paths across rugged gritstone hillsides, winding valleys, and charming villages.
The full ultra begins and ends in Heptonstall, offering runners a complete loop around Halifax, Hebden Bridge, and Todmorden. Along the way, you’ll encounter seven vegan-friendly aid stations manned by enthusiastic volunteers ready to provide sustenance, encouragement, and a friendly smile as you navigate through this challenging yet rewarding terrain.
For those looking for a slightly shorter adventure, the 30-mile event starts in Brighouse at Brookfoot Lock but follows much of the same scenic route. This option allows participants to enjoy four out of seven aid stations before reaching Todmorden Sports Centre by 4:30pm on race day.
Both events are designed with safety and comfort in mind, featuring generous cut-off times that allow runners to take in the breathtaking views at their own pace. The full ultra includes non-negotiable checkpoints at Withens Clough (by 7pm) and Great Rock (by 11pm), ensuring you stay on track while still having time to marvel at the natural beauty around you.
Registration for both distances is available either Friday evening from 6-8pm or Saturday morning from 6-7am in Heptonstall. For those opting into the shorter route, additional registration slots are provided closer to the start line in Brighouse on Saturday between 8:00 and 8:45 am.
Upon crossing the finish line, participants will receive a commemorative medal along with post-race refreshments. Additional perks include GPS tracking of your journey, fully stocked vegan-friendly aid stations throughout the course, baggage storage at registration, and access to downloadable race photography on the event website (for the 50-mile only).
