About the Event

The Canada Day Classic returns to Port Coquitlam in British Columbia on July 1st, bringing together runners and families for a vibrant celebration of fitness and community spirit. This annual event is set against the backdrop of lush green spaces and bustling streets, offering certified and measured courses that cater to all levels of athletes looking to achieve personal bests or simply enjoy a festive run.
Port Coquitlam exudes energy on race day as runners gather in the heart of town for an exhilarating morning start. The air is filled with anticipation and the hum of excitement as participants lace up their shoes, ready to take on either the 5K or 10K routes. Live DJ sets punctuate the streets with upbeat rhythms that keep spirits high throughout the race, creating a unique blend of athletic challenge and community celebration.
Since its inception, the Canada Day Classic has grown into an integral part of Port Coquitlam’s summer calendar, drawing hundreds of participants each year who come to compete in the timed races or cheer on the young runners taking part in the free kids’ 1K event. The race is more than just a competition; it's a tradition that supports local causes and brings together residents from all walks of life. This July 1st, Port Coquitlam will once again welcome racers with open arms and a promise of memorable moments on its scenic roads.

The Canada Day Classic features three distinct race options: the certified 5K course, which is fast and flat; the longer 10K route that extends further into the surrounding neighborhoods; and the free kids’ 1K run designed specifically for children aged 5 to 10. Each distance offers a unique experience tailored to ensure every participant leaves with a sense of accomplishment and community pride.
The race courses wind through familiar streets lined with leafy trees, passing by local landmarks like schools, parks, and businesses that make Port Coquitlam feel alive on this special day. The terrain is primarily flat, offering runners the chance to focus on their pace rather than navigating challenging inclines or declines. Aid stations are strategically placed along both routes to provide water and energy snacks to keep everyone fueled throughout.
Runners should expect mild temperatures ranging from 14°C to 26°C with an average temperature of around 20°C, which feels comfortable even as humidity levels hover at about 70%. The chance of rain is low, but participants may want to check the forecast closer to race day and consider lightweight clothing options. With a slight breeze blowing through the area throughout the morning hours, the conditions are ideal for pushing personal limits while enjoying the festive atmosphere.
The Canada Day Classic invites all runners to register online at https://raceroster.com/events/2026/115510/canada-day-classic where participants can choose between the 5K or 10K races, each with a registration fee of $55.89 and $66.66 respectively for adults, while children aged 5 to 10 run free as part of the dedicated kids’ race. Bib pickup will take place at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre on June 27th from 10 AM until 4 PM where participants can collect their bib numbers and any additional information needed.
On July 1st, all racers should arrive early to familiarize themselves with the start location in Centennial Park. The park is conveniently located at 953 Railway St., Port Coquitlam, BC V3C 2R4, making it easy for both locals and visitors alike to find their way there on race morning. Participants must be aged five or older to compete; children under the age of ten are welcome in the free kids’ run. Those new to the event should plan to arrive a little early to soak up the pre-race excitement, grab some snacks at one of the food vendors nearby, and warm up with an energizing stretch before starting.
The Canada Day Classic on July 1st is more than just another race; it's a day when Port Coquitlam celebrates its community spirit through sport and camaraderie. With certified courses, live music, and friendly competition, there’s no better way to mark the holiday in style while supporting local causes and fostering connections within the running community of British Columbia.
