Carl's 5K

Join us on October 10, 2026, for the Carl Granetzke Memorial 5K Run/Walk, an inspiring tribute to one of Racine's most cherished running icons. This race celebrates the life and legacy of Carl Granetzke, a beloved member of our community who completed over 800 races throughout his lifetime with unmatched enthusiasm and energy.
The event begins at Case High School on Washington Avenue in Racine, Wisconsin, where participants can pick up their packets from 8:00 am to 8:45 am. The race kicks off promptly at 9:00 am, following a scenic route along the Pike River Pathway—a course Carl himself frequented and loved.
Runners will embark on a picturesque journey through Racine's natural beauty as they follow the paved bike trail northward. This path offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape, making for an enjoyable and memorable experience for all participants.
Upon crossing the finish line, every runner receives a unique keepsake—a medal from Carl’s personal collection, randomly selected to honor his remarkable racing history—and a special commemorative pin to remember him by. Additionally, top male and female finishers in each age group (in 5-year increments) will be recognized with awards.
The post-race festivities include refreshments for all participants, including a complimentary beer for those over the legal drinking age, as well as an array of prizes through a raffle draw. A goodie bag filled with race essentials and souvenirs is also provided to each finisher.
This event welcomes runners of all ages and abilities, inviting everyone to share in the spirit Carl embodied: positivity, resilience, and love for the sport. Join us on October 10th to celebrate a life well-lived through movement and community.
