The 14th annual Cayuga Trails takes place on Saturday, 30 May 2026 at 105 Enfield Falls Road, Ithaca, New York. This event offers 50 Mile and 50K distances on one of the most scenic courses in the country, featuring miles of singletrack, dozens of waterfalls, gorges, signature historic stone stairs, and mixed eastern forests. Registration closes on Thursday, 30 April 2026 at 11:59 PM ET, with a field cap of 440 individuals.
| Distance | Start Time | Elevation Gain | Course Surface | Drop Bag Locations | Pacers | Poles | Crews |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 Miler | 6:00 AM | ~10,000 ft | 95% trail / 5% paved | Y Camp (miles 10,25,35) + Buttermilk (miles 15,20,40,45) | Not permitted | Yes (but not ideal for course) | Yes (limited parking) |
| 50K | 7:30 AM | ~7,000 ft | 95% trail / 5% paved | Y Camp + Buttermilk | Not permitted | Yes (but not ideal for course) | Yes (limited parking) |
Entrants receive a Patagonia Sun Hoody, a finisher's medal from Ragged Cuts in Connecticut, and post-race food from Fitnell Farms. Portions of each entry support the Finger Lakes Land Trust, Finger Lakes Trail Conference, and State Parks Heritage Trust for local trail and park projects. The course is roughly 95% trail and 5% paved, with only a few miles of out-and-back overlap with other entrants.
Course note: Course records were established on prior iterations with less elevation gain and less raw singletrack, as well as during National Championship years. The climbs are not that long and only a couple are steep in parts—poles are permitted but not the greatest fitting course for them.
Drop bags: Entrants may leave a drop bag at the Y Camp staging area (miles 10, 25, 35) and have one shuttled to Buttermilk (miles 15, 20, 40, 45). Buttermilk drop bags will not be returned to the staging area until that aid station closes in the evening, though participants may retrieve bags when they finish. Drop bags left behind will not be returned.
Crews are permitted, but parking is limited. No additional crew cars are permitted. The entry road to the staging area is tight and can get jammed, so crews should park in the lower Park main lot and walk to the staging pavilion. Pacers are not permitted.
The event encourages going cupless—bring a silicone cup or similar if hydrating beyond bottles or a bladder.
Refund policy: No refunds. However, entries may be rolled into another RNR event in the current or following year if notified no less than 30 days before the race. No refunds or rollovers if notified within 30 days of the event. Expenses are paid out around that time and cannot be recouped.
The field cap is 440 individuals. Based on prior trends, approximately the first 40 runners from the waitlist may be pulled through as traditional runner drops occur before race day. Additional entrants who have previously volunteered or supported the event may occasionally receive priority status from the waitlist.
Cayuga Trails is supported by volunteer crews from TrailsRoc (register for Many On The Genny), Binghamton Area Trail Runners, Happily Running, and dozens of individual volunteers. The event is grateful for returning streakers who may toe the line for their 14th straight year, as well as first-timers making it part of their annual adventure lineup. This is a beautiful place and a beautiful trail family—register before 30 April 2026 to be in the mix.
