About the Event
The Morland 'Marathon' is an exhilarating trail ultra designed for runners and walkers alike, set against the stunning backdrop of Cumbria's undulating countryside. Scheduled for 2027, this race promises to be a memorable journey through some of England’s most breathtaking landscapes.
Starting in the picturesque village of Morland near Penrith, participants will traverse approximately 29.7 miles of mixed terrain that hugs the slopes of both the Pennines and Howgills. The route winds through the Eden Valley and skirts the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, offering runners a feast for their eyes with its rolling hills, ancient stone circles, cascading waterfalls, serene meadows, historic villages, and rugged fells.
The course is marked by 3000 feet of elevation gain, making it both challenging and rewarding. Trail or hybrid shoes are recommended to navigate the varied terrain effectively. Friends and family can follow your progress through Open Tracking, ensuring a supportive atmosphere throughout the event.
Upon crossing the finish line back in Morland, participants will receive a medal along with water and snacks at four strategically placed checkpoints. The race directors promise an enthusiastic welcome, making every runner feel valued and celebrated for their efforts.
Trophies are awarded to the top male and female finishers, as well as non-binary competitors, relay teams, and age-group winners in V50, V60, and V70 categories (male and female). Registration opens at 6:00 am with a start time of 8:30 am. The cut-off for the day is set at 8:30 pm.
Checkpoints are well-stocked to keep runners fueled throughout their journey:
