Chigwell School hosts an exhilarating sprint orienteering competition, featuring two intense races with strategic breaks between them. Participants can choose to compete solely in the first sprint or take on both challenges. The unique format allows competitors to enter courses outside their age group, adding a layer of flexibility and excitement. The event takes place at Chigwell School's picturesque grounds, conveniently situated near the reception building (TQ442948). Both races start and finish close by, ensuring easy access for all participants. The course winds through well-mapped areas including playing fields, parkland, and school buildings, providing a diverse landscape that challenges navigational skills. Competitors will use updated ISSOM maps at a scale of 1:4000 to navigate the terrain accurately. Electronic punching is mandatory with EPS-SI systems available on all courses. Dibber hire costs £1 for adults (free for juniors) and SIAC dibbers are also available for an additional fee. On-site facilities include toilets and changing areas, though participants should bring their own picnic lunch as there are no catering services provided. Early registration is recommended through the SI Entries system to secure a spot in this limited-entry event capped at 120 competitors. Standard entries close by midnight on August 7th, but late entries will be accepted if map availability allows. Entry fees vary based on affiliation and age group: BOF Seniors pay £8, non-BOF Seniors £10, while all juniors are charged just £4. For more details and results, visit the event website at www.chig.org.uk. The competition is organized by a dedicated team including Ray Curtis as organizer ([email protected]), Tony Maycraft as planner, and Tim Pribul as controller. As with any orienteering race, participants compete at their own risk and are responsible for their safety throughout the event. This sprint orienteering event promises an engaging day of competition amidst Chigwell School's scenic grounds, perfect for both seasoned runners and newcomers to this thrilling sport.
