Welcome to the Chip Chase, an exhilarating race that takes place on Sunday at the picturesque Cross Keys pub in Uppermill. Whether you're signing up ahead of time or planning to register upon arrival, this 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) event promises a challenging yet rewarding experience through rugged terrain. Upon reaching the venue, park your vehicle carefully along Church Road or Church Lane; avoid using the pub car park as it is reserved for race officials and essential personnel. Once you've parked, head inside to collect your timing device and number from the registration desk at the Cross Keys pub. The start line is approximately a 10-minute walk away, so be sure to arrive early enough to make this trek comfortably. The weather forecast suggests there might be some showers during the race, making it essential for runners to carry waterproof tops with hoods attached. Additionally, all participants are required to bring fully charged mobile phones in case of emergencies or unexpected delays along the route. Other than these essentials, no additional kit is necessary as the course will be well marked and supported by marshals at various points. The race itself features a 400-meter elevation gain (1312 feet), winding through scenic landscapes that showcase both natural beauty and challenging terrain. The flagged path ensures clear navigation for runners of all abilities, with marshals stationed along the way to assist or provide first aid if needed. Should you need to retire from the race at any point, it's important to inform a marshal so they can relay your status back to headquarters. Upon finishing, head over to Cross Keys pub where hot chips will be served starting around 12:15 PM; this complimentary treat is included in your entry fee. As for refreshments beyond the free chips, you'll need to purchase any additional beverages from the bar area. Prize giving ceremonies commence at 12:45 PM and are divided into male and female categories. This year's race saw impressive performances with Martha May Barker setting a new women’s course record of 45 minutes and 24 seconds in 2024, while Matt Driver claimed the men's title with an outstanding time of 43 minutes and 41 seconds last year.
