Set against the backdrop of North Derbyshire, just beyond the borders of the Peak District, the Cordwell Colossus trail run offers runners an immersive journey through some of England's most captivating countryside. Spanning over 20 miles, this looped route weaves its way across trails, paths, and woodlands in the picturesque Cordwell Valley, with a brief detour into the neighboring Linacre Valley for added variety. The terrain presents a mix of runnable trails and lanes alongside more challenging single-track routes and trods. While the course is largely unmarked, key navigation points are clearly indicated to help runners stay on track. Participants can access detailed route notes and GPS files prior to race day, ensuring they have all the necessary tools for a smooth journey. Registration takes place from 8am until 8:45 am at Holmesfield Parish Hall in Dronfield (S18 7WZ), where free parking is available. The event kicks off promptly at 9am and concludes by 3pm, with a strict six-hour time limit to complete the course. Two checkpoints punctuate the route—CP1 near Wigley after 7.5 miles and CP2 at The Peacock pub in Cutthorpe around the 13.5-mile mark—both offering essential hydration and sustenance options including both sweet and savory snacks. Upon crossing the finish line, all participants will be awarded a commemorative medal, with additional prizes for first-place male and female runners. Light refreshments await at the conclusion of the race to help reenergize after an exhilarating day in the countryside. Throughout the event, medical support is provided both along the route and at the main hub, ensuring everyone's safety during their adventure through North Derbyshire’s stunning landscapes.
